When I applied to RISD, I opened my statement of purpose with this sentence: “Never before have I understood more profoundly the gravity of who I am becoming than I do now.” It’s been 3 years since I wrote that, and at the time it was ‘profoundly’ true, but today it’s changed. As of now, I would say: “Never before have I understood more profoundly the joy of who I am becoming than I do now.” I imagine a world where there is harmony between the lifestyles of humankind and the ecosystems that sustain us. Architecture can foster this harmony; I’ve watched my friends and myself prove just that while in this program. I am confident in saying I have the courage, strength, and love for the work. I cannot wait for the joy; I must create it.
